The Brief

  • Create and present report

  • Liaise with journalists and writers

  • Manage press coverage

The All Party Parliamentary Group for Cycling and Walking launched its own inquiry report into the Government’s 2nd Cycling and Walking Investment Strategy (CWIS2). The purpose of the report was to make recommendations to help the government in their goal of “Reaching Our Active Travel Potential”.

The report, supported by the UK’s largest bicycle manufacturer and Fusion Client, Brompton Bicycle, made a number of detailed recommendations based on evidence received from stakeholders.

The report sought to highlight the role that active travel will play in decarbonising transport and recommended the introduction of national active travel targets consistent with the sector's goal of Net Zero by 2050.

The report also outlined the wider role that Active Travel England could and should play in delivering a step change in active travel. The body should be given funding for inclusive projects, research, and the power to act as a mediator between local and central government where required.

With extensive and far-reaching recommendations it was important for journalists to have full understanding of the report and be able to speak with officers of the group in order to understand all of the nuances and potential of the suggestions made.

The report was widely covered by specialist and national press, raising awareness and understanding of the wider benefits of an enhanced Active Travel policy.

Project Description

"This report provides a broad and detailed overview of what is needed to take that next step in delivering wider uptake of cycling and walking - and the many benefits associated."
