Stage 2:

Team on the front.

Paul writes; Small field or not, today’s second Stage of the Surrey Revolutions 5 Day was an excellent days racing. On a circuit based around Bletchingley / Outwood a group of three broke away once the field reached the first of the two circuits used today.

Tom Murray (Kinesis RT), Wouter Sybrandy (Surrey League Team) and James Stewart (KFS Sunday Cycles) opened a gap on the main field which contained all three of the leaders (overall, mountains & points).

Chris in break.

Sybrandy would later suffer for his early efforts finish almost a lap down on the stage winner. As yesterday, it was the Wildside’s and Sigma’s that set about closing the leaders down. Sigma’s Dan Duguid put in some excellent turns on the front but was to pay for his efforts later on in the Stage. There didn’t seem to be panic in the chase, rather a controlled chase which would see the leaders reeled in as the race started the larger finishing circuit. Their lead reached a maximum of just over a minute and a half, but as they reached Bletchingley on the finishing circuit a new larger lead group had formed including all three competition leaders.
On the finishing circuit Matthew Higgins (Team Corley) was active in trying to consolidate his Mountains Jersey by attacking on the climbs. His attack on the final lap causing a three man group to go away, Higgins himself, Chris McNamara (Wildside RT) and Steve Calland (Surrey League Team). At the line Higgins took an “uncontested” sprint. Ahead of McNamara who had done enough to take the overall lead from Gary Dodd by some thirty six seconds. Third place went to Calland who rode in a dozen seconds behind"

There is no diary entry for this stage, but it was the race defining move, where Chris capatilised on the time gains the previous day, making the break again and taking over 30 secs on the other GC rivals.
